I personally thinks drawing the eyes, the nose, and mouth first then connects everything into place produce better far better proportions in less time. It also works for pretty much all angles and directions, I recommend you experiment with that...
Everyone has their own ways of doin' things, bro. If you're more comfortable doin' it that way, then shucks, yo. I'd rather just stick to what I know, man. Besides, doin' it that way can lead to messy images. I prefer drawin' down the guidelines and achieving near perfect results. Albeit, it don't work all the time, but it does work for the majority.
Also, starting from one point without first knowing the basics can lead to ruin in a drawing. If you're familiar with basics, then by all means be my guest. Still, try drawing using guidelines. Then draw the same thing your way. You're bound to see some diferences, yo. I'm not forcin' ya', just makin' idle chit chat. Cheers.
This is why I said "experiment with it" rather than "do it".
Yeah, I'm comfortable with doing it like that, I tried drawing using guidelines but it never gave me satisfying results. When I found out that way of drawing it was a major advancement for me, that took about several months of experimenting...
Sorry, bro. I thought you were makin' some sort of snarky comment/remark there. My bad.
I agree that not using guidelines gives you more freedom, but it just don't fly with me, ya' know? I prefer the old fashioned way. Jus' teh way I am, yo.
